The Loop Golf Cart

Eligibility for the Loop

All riders must demonstrate a disability-related need to receive approval to use the Loop cart. Disability Access & Compliance accepts applications for Loop access, verifies the requestor’s disability needs based on documentation, and approves requests as appropriate.

Disabled Students Program (DSP) Students

Students registered for services with the DSP can upload medical documentation that includes a recovery date when they submit their application (please send an email to access@berkeley.edu to notify us if you upload medical documentation) or DSP students can consult with their DSP specialist and request their specialist submit a DSP Loop Cart authorization form.  See additional information about DSP’s processes(link is external).

Non-DSP Students

Non-DSP students must upload documentation of their disability need(s) with their application or send documentation as an email attachment to access@berkeley.edu that includes an expected recovery  date. Students will receive access to the Loop for one (1) semester or through their expected recovery from the injury/condition for which they seek Loop access, whichever is shortest. Access to the Loop can be extended beyond the initial request in consultation with Disability Access & Compliance.

Academic Appointees

Academic Appointees (APM definition of academic appointee) (link is a PDF download) are required to submit an application to use the Loop cart.  Once the application is received by DAC, instructions will be sent by email about how to submit medical documentation directly to Mary Kelly the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor/Disability Specialist    in the office of Disability Management Services (DMS) at University Health Services.  Academic Appointees should download and register the Tripshot app then send an email to access@berkeley.edu to have their account temporarily activated for two weeks.  This will allow time for the Academic Appointee to be contacted by DMS and provide the necessary medical documentation.

Staff

Staff are required to submit an application to use the Loop cart.  Once the application is received by DAC, instructions will be sent by email about how to submit medical documentation directly to ADA Specialist Matthew Alvarez in the office of People and Culture.  After submitting the application, Staff should download and register the Tripshot app then send an email to access@berkeley.edu to have their account temporarily activated for two weeks.  This will allow time for staff to be contacted and provide the necessary documents to the ADA Specialist.

Guests and Visitors 

Guests and Visitors will need to contact the university department/unit that invited them or the department/unit sponsoring the event/program they are attending or the university department/unit/person they are visiting to request to use the Loop cart.  CalNet authentication is necessary to use the Tripshot app to request a ride.  A department/unit will be asked to designate an employee who will submit an application on behalf of a guest/visitor.  The sponsoring department/unit or the person that is being visited will be required to download and register the Tripshot app on their cellular telephone to access Loop cart services.
