Founded in 1982 as MSRI, the Simons Laufer Mathematical Sciences Institute (SLMath) is one of the world’s leading centers for collaborative research in the mathematical sciences. Located in the hills above the University of California, Berkeley campus, the Institute hosts an average of 80 visiting researchers in residence at any given time and serves 3,000 participants annually in its programs. SLMath also plays a vital role in education, outreach, and public engagement with mathematics, supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation and other federal agencies, academic institutions, private foundations, and individual donors.
